WOOD GLIDERS - LAUNCH DAY

For the month of January, our class' young engineers will be building gliders out of balsa wood. The students are divided into teams of 2. The teams must research, plan, and work together build a glider that will fly as far as possible.
January 26, 2022 - On this final phase of our Wood Glider Project, it's Glider Launching Day!!!
13 teams of engineers with 13 different gliders. Each glider was launched using a launcher to ensure the same thrust was applied. After 3 rounds and 39 launches, Aristan and Adriano's glider flew the farthest with the top 2 combined distance of 87.6 feet. The engineering team of Dasanny and Xiaoqing won the longest flight distance with 48.9 feet!
It was a fun learning experience for all the students... and their teacher! 😊

WOOD GLIDERS - BUILDING & TESTING

January 19, 2022 - Continuing with the third phase of the Glider Project, students work eagerly to put their gliders together using wood glue and hot glue. After the wing and stabilizers are glued on to the fuselage, the students find the glider's center of gravity by adding modeling clay to the nose. Finally, they test their gliders and modify them to make the gliders fly straighter and farther.
The exciting conclusion will be next week with the glider launching event!

WOOD GLIDERS - BUILDING

January 12, 2022 - During this second phase, students use their drawn plans to build the glider. They transfer the wing, fuselage, and stabilizers to the balsa wood and cut the different parts ready to glue them together to make their gliders.

WOOD GLIDERS - planning

January 5, 2022 - For the first phase, engineering teams are busy drawing glider plans. Once the plans are approved, they will receive the materials to start building gliders. Stay tuned for next week's updates.
